Business inspections are predominately all about figures. A buyer will want to satisfy themselves in terms of numbers before they move forward. No one is going to buy a business that they do not believe they can make profitable. The other consideration will most certainly be the lifestyle that comes along with making the purchase.
 
In most cases, it is the profit aspect of a business is the most significant. However, some buyers have already made their money elsewhere and it is the lifestyle they are more interested in.

Even if that is the case, no one is going to buy a business that they are not able to sustain, or better yet improve on.
So having some thoughts or concepts that illustrate how they can grow the business is always a very good idea. Do not be too over the top; just show them how they could take the business in another direction if they wanted to.
That is why private selling works so effectively, because no one can show the potential for growth better than the existing owner.
 
A lot of business sellers make the mistake of thinking the first inspection is when they actually sit down with a potential buyer and talk numbers. That can be true, but in most cases, it is not.
When you are selling a business more often than not, a potential buyer will approach you first as a client.
 
It makes total sense when you think about it. A buyer will want to see how your business operates without you having the luxury on knowing they are interested. So the fact is, your business inspections could begin as soon as you go on the market.
