GPS Tracking Tracking at its best

 • Comments 0

Our ancestors had to go to pretty extreme measures to keep from getting lost. They erected monumental landmarks, laboriously drafted detailed maps and learned to read the stars in the night sky. These days all you will need is a GPS receiver and a clear view of the sky to know where you are. Thanks to GPS tracking.

To brief you, GPS tracking unit is a device that uses Global Positioning System to track or record the location of a vehicle person or an establishment at anytime irrespective of the time and weather conditions. It later can be transmitted to local hub where the information can be analyzed and used to the desired end. Well be it tracking the position of the asset at regular intervals or alarming the host about the set target GPS trackers are of different kinds. Some of the prominent ones that are being applied are Data loggers, Data pushers and Data pullers. Depending upon the kind of applications there GPS trackers are used to attain accurate results.

Data logger kind of the GPS tracker is basically used in the investigation cases by government or private detectives if they have to keep recording the present location of the asset. A GPS logger simply logs the position of the device at regular intervals in its internal memory which will allow downloading of the information for analysis.

Data pusher is the most common type of GPS tracker. Also known as a GPS beacon, this kind of device pushes (i.e. "sends") the position of the device as well as other information like speed or altitude at regular intervals, to a determined server, that can store and instantly analyze the data. The application of these kind of trackers include, Personal tracking – In Law Enforcement , where a person out on bail could be wearing a band around his wrist so that he is constantly under surveillance. Asset Tracking – Animal Control, when tagged along various wild life species the scientist can actually follow their lifecycles and also their migration patterns.

GPS data pullers are also known as GPS transponders. Contrary to data pushers, that send the position of the devices at regular intervals (push technology), these devices are always-on and can be queried as often as required (pull technology). Data Pullers are widely being used in the form of devices containing a GPS receiver and a cell phone which, when sent a special SMS message reply to the message with their location.

Hence with technology promising us of no part of the planet being unknown, days ahead will only have us do wonders with GPS tracking. Until tomorrow, today let’s just keep reaping out of GPS.
