As of 2012, the Japanese electronics giant cells deliver lithium-ion batteries for electric cars Tesla group.
The contract between Panasonic and Tesla Motors October 11 is the delivery of lithium-ion cells for more than 80,000 units over the next four years.
“This agreement builds on a multi-year collaboration between Panasonic and Tesla for the development of the new generation of cell quality suitable for use in automobiles, to accelerate the expansion of the electric vehicle market,” says Panasonic. The components of accumulators will be placed on the Tesla Model S electric sedan the U.S. group.
This announcement follows the conclusion of an initial agreement between the two groups in 2009. Panasonic also invested $ 30 million in Tesla to deepen the partnership.
Panasonic is one of the largest providers of global cell lithium batteries, particularly through its subsidiary, Sanyo, recently fully absorbed. As for Tesla, it provides lithium battery packs assembled from lithium-ion cells with Japanese automakers Toyota and Germany’s Daimler.
