Prevent Hearing Loss

  • Comments 0

Loud music, rolling drums and heavy metal music are the favorite of many people who love the different genres of music. One can enjoy different types of music. From bass guitars to the flute, from drums to the piano, every person has a different taste in music. Music certainly alters the mood of the one who listens to it. But a lot of people have the habit of listening to very loud music which at a point results in noise and hearing loss. Many problems arise when you listen to the very loud music.

If you are among the ones who keep their headphones plugged in the whole day then you have something to be worried about. 85 decibel (db) of sound is enough to cause hearing damage or hearing loss. Here is a real shocker – a rock concert alone or the general traffic noise due to the continuous honking produce more than 110 -120db. Loud music on headphones is sufficient to cause hearing loss as it produces the same amount of decibels as the traffic noise or rock concert noise. Regular use of headphones can also result in permanent deafness.

Hearing loss can be inevitable after a point. There are many people who suffer from various hearing problems. The most common problems are the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Tinnitus and Pendred syndrome.

Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a very rare syndrome which occurs when the tiny bone joints become hyper mobile resulting in the loss of hearing. People suffering from this problem may also get skin or heart disease. Another problem that occurs commonly is the Tinnitus problem.

A large number of people suffer from tinnitus. Tinnitus is a high frequency whistling sound which one perceives. Some people learn to cope with it while others find it highly irritating. Prolonged suffering from tinnitus can also lead to sleeping problems, despair, frustration, depression and irritation. Generally the question which people suffering from Tinnitus ask is how to sleep with tinnitus. Effective treatments like the Tinnitus Retraining Therapy can help you do that. Pendred Syndrome is a genetic disorder which leads to hearing loss, goitre and hypothyroidism.

It is a myth that only elderly people suffer from hearing problems. But such is not the case, hearing problems can start from the age of 35 and grow worse as you become older. If you are among the many who are suffering from one or the other hearing problem then there are certain prevention measures that you can take. Keep your ear plugs in your pocket and use them when the noise level is too high. Always make a point to keep the volume of your music player or television set low.
