The idea that you have to strive to be happy is totally counterproductive and a squander of your time. What an alleviation! It’s time to let go of the actual pursuit of happiness quotes, to let go in the trying, and spot the resource already inside you.
The pursuit of happiness is literally just a mind game we all play with ourselves. It is just the mind that feels in the notion that ‘someday I will get there, to be happy I just must achieve this and that and after that I will be there.’ The problem here is not too we have these views, it is that we are usually completely identified while using mind and actually believe in the thoughts. We believe our own body-mind is who we are and so when these types of thoughts come up we experience them on each level of our being as truth.
This idea that we are the body-mind and need to ‘achieve’ pleasure is something we have basically been given by the modern society we live in. It can be clear that when we are born, for the first couple of days or weeks we are not also aware that we have an actual body. We thought that we were still a part of our mother and that nothing existed outside that. Even exterior physical objects had been perceived as part of all of us, we had never acknowledged any different. The truly amazing element of this birth knowledge when we really take a look at is that we were presently there. What was there? The sense of existence had been there. We were in existence.
During the brief time that we had no association with our physical physique and maybe even the brain, we still existed, we existed without the mental reference point of our body-mind, we were merely here, present. And also the presence that was there when you were delivered is the same presence that is here with you right this moment, it is deeper when compared with your body-mind, it is the existence force running through you at this moment.
This is where correct lasting happiness exists, beyond the mind and body. Once we recognise this spot from which the rest of us emanates and also operate from which place then something that happens in our experience, good or bad, is simply noticed as a passing sensation and deep well-being arises with what ever is happening. We label this contentment unconditional happiness.
Nothing is to cultivate, this reputation is already here. Call off the pursuit of happiness and simply start noticing.
