Bangladesh has numerous sources of natural beauty, marvelous places and sceneries. Cox’s bazaar is one of the most attractive and famous tourist spot. Cox’s bazaar is a district town located on a low range of sand hills between the river Bakkhali and Bay of Bengal with a long open beach towards the sea. It is about 150 km away from the leading sea port Chittagong, near the border of Myanmar, in the south western corner of Bangladesh. An officer of British East India Company Hiram Cox in 1799 defeated the Burmese king in a battle, who had rehabilitated here a group of MAGHs seeking shelter in British territory and set up a bazar (market) here which was named “Cox’s Bazar” after him. . Cox’s Bazar is connected by road and air with Dhaka and Chittagong. . Cox’s Bazar is also known by the name “Panowa”, the literal translation of which means “yellow flower”. Its other old name was “Palongkee”. The town and surrounding places have many colorful pagodas and Buddhist temples and are inhabited by, among others, many tribal people who have their own distinct Customs and Traditions.
The main attraction of Cox’s Bazar is the long natural sandy beach that stretches from the mouth of the Bakkhali River going all the way to Teknaf. The World’s longest unbroken (120 km) natural sandy sea beach slopes here gently down to the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal. Against the picturesque background of a chain of forested hills with rich wildlife made this beach as one of the most attractive tourist spot in the world.
Buddhist temples, ponderous pagodas , Miles of golden sands, towering cliffs, surfing waves, colorful rare conch shells and tribes, delightful sea-food—all this makes Cox’s bazaar the tourist capital of Bangladesh. In addition to the long sea-beach with its silvery waves breaking at the foot of hills and sea-bathing, the attractions of Cox’s Bazar include a drive along the beach, the moonlit night, and the exciting interior of the bazar and its people. Cox’s Bazar is a small port and health resort Cox’s bazar mostly famous for its beautiful sea beach and the sunset. The view of the sun setting on the rolling sea-waves is simply captivating. The warm shark free waters are good for bathing and swimming & while the sandy beaches offer opportunities for sun-bathing.
Cox’s Bazar city is not so big. It has only 6.85 km² of area. But its weather condition is always good for healthy life. The climate of Bangladesh is mostly determined by its location in the tropical monsoon region: high temperature, heavy rainfall, often excessive humidity, and distinct seasonal variations. The reversal of the wind circulation between summer and winter is another important feature of the climate of the country. The climate of Cox’s bazar is mostly similar to the rest of the country. It is further characterized by the location in the coastal area. The annual average temperature in Cox’s Bazar remains at about a maximum of 34.8 °C and a minimum of 16.1 °C. The average amount of rainfall remains at 4,285 mm. The Cox’s beach bazar definitely has the finest leisure it can offer to each of its visitors. People can take a timely stroll along the lengthened stretch of the beach and enjoy the view of the amazing seascape. Visitors can also enjoy water sport activities like scuba diving, surfing, and try some boat rides.
