She feels uncomfortable though with receiving help coming from Eddie, who she still cannot fully trust. High concept and committed, Hit and Miss uses Sevingy’s Mia, a contract killer which has a secret: she’s a pre-op transsexual. Mia’s life is sent into a tailspin when she gets a letter from a great ex-girlfriend dying from cancer malignancy revealing that Mia fathered a son eleven rice. Faced with a difficult decision, Mia becomes the guardian to a new family, a choice that forces her to combine her killer instincts using her newly acquired maternal ones. “Hit & Miss” tells the story of the lethal killer the hub of a troubled family and how a bunch of their lives will be considerably changed forever.
Chlo? Sevigny looks good inside a hoodie. This was one of things that became clear early on within the new six-part drama Strike & Miss on Skies Atlantic. The former indie fashion queen has a way of wearing clothes that makes her look good in just about anything. This was a drawback to the role of Mia, which requires Sevigny to play a transsexual assassin – born male, but identifying as a lady. And just to make things harder for that Golden Globe-winning actress, she was also necessary to turn in an Irish accent.
Her cold-blooded killer experience though were established with the murder of a defenceless victim in a very car park: directed and played with no emotion. Mia signed off about the contract by reapplying her lipstick in a rearview mirror before driving far from the scene. “You’re like a device Mia, ” her delighted employer told her, handing her a correspondence from an ex-girlfriend that revealed the opposite element of the piece. It was news to us and also to Mia. She was the father of an 11-year-old son.
Soon, we were joining her on a trip to a hilltop farmhouse to fulfill her progeny. There Mia learned that will her ex, now dead from cancers, had assigned her the guardianship of most four of her little ones, who were busy getting on with caring for themselves. The eldest wanted Mia to help sign the legal document then leave so they could carry on since before.
The hand of Paul Abbott was suddenly noticeable. The brilliant television dramatist didn’t write the script for Struck & Miss; the series was “created by” your pet. (And as an admirer, I’d trade quite a couple of “created by” Paul Abbotts for the “written by”.) But here seemed to be another unparented family, like the one with Shameless that Abbott loosely based on his own chaotic upbringing.
The rest of the actual episode tended to belie the actual improbable premise. This was the staple plot of an western – the strong stranger who rides into town to protect the innocent.
